The LYCRA Company, a global leader in developing innovative and sustainable fiber and technology solutions for the textile and apparel industry, today announced that its sustainability director, Jean Hegedus, will be a keynote speaker at the third annual Sustainability Talks Istanbul. The one-day event on November 2 gathers industry leaders to discuss challenges and propose sustainable solutions that will help reduce the industry’s impact on the planet. Hegedus is presenting The Path to De-Carbonization: A Multi-Faceted Approach at the conference at 11:30 a.m. UTC.

The LYCRA Company is proud of its sustainability leadership position in the industry. In 2008, the fiber manufacturer launched Planet Agenda, the sustainability framework that encompasses its business. It also introduced the first product in its EcoMade family of fibers that uses recycled materials to reduce waste. Today, its LYCRA®, COOLMAX®, and THERMOLITE® brands offer EcoMade options as an alternative to fibers using finite resources.

Two of the latest products in the EcoMade family help address the issue of textile waste. COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® EcoMade technologies made from 100% recycled textile waste use fabric scraps from cutting room floors. These innovative cooling and warming fibers offer members of the value chain the opportunity to help reduce their footprint.

The LYCRA Company also believes that transparency is critical when it comes to sustainability. It has signed the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Call-to-Action Commitment Letter and recently issued its first annual Planet Agenda Update. This document outlines the company’s 2030 Sustainability Goals and Commitments and details how they align with five of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are proud to participate in Sustainability Talks Istanbul again,” said Ebru Pirinccioglu, Commercial Director EMEA. “Turkey is a key player in the global textile industry, and as such, a prioritized country to launch our range of sustainable solutions. Our collaboration with Qore® is set to be a game changer which will allow our customers to differentiate their fabric offerings using bio-derived LYCRA® fiber elastane”.

Attendees can explore The LYCRA Company’s offerings at stand number 1-2 at the conference. Representatives from mills, brands, and retailers unable to attend the event can contact Ms. Pirinccioglu directly to learn how to source sustainable fibers and fabrics made from recycled resources that help reduce waste.

Sustainability Talks Istanbul is a hybrid conference being held at the Zorlu Performance Arts and online. Registration is free and open to the public.
